Absinthe Fairy

That one had to rock. Maybe because I chose it out of vague reminiscence from my 26 year-old’s hitchhiking trip through Europe and association with crazy nights in Southern Spain’s Cadiz with my equally rebel friends, drinking 95 degree absinthe every night and next morning 3pm-ish sharing stories about the past night and connecting the lacking memories with help of camera’s photos while scrabbling delicious pasta we just cooked together with our forkspoons all from one pot…and so again, for quite a week))  That and every other time I’ve ever drank absinthe has always been so rebelliously magical and special for me that that’s what i wanted to capture in the image Wormwood/Absinthe zombie fairy – its potential surrealness and rebel beauty.

The process was very cool honestly, I googled plant images and one of the high def pictures provoked a gesture, a pose that was perfectly expressing the feeling I wanted to express: a mischievous tiny creature lying cozily and carelessly in a bed of wormwood leaves, no shame, no danger, safety and limitlessness, beautiful green and magical festiveness of ordinary existence before or after death, who cares. I played old punk records and made myself a cocktail while sketching the absinthe zombie fairy in front of the fire place, connecting to the image I was trying to bring to paper with watercolor and ink pens. I present her to you: the Zombie Absinthe Fairy, the owner of her Time and Universe, that decides when it’s time to slay and when’s to bathe the world in greenish dreamy fireworks of smoke clouds, reflections, dreams, illusions, joys and sparks.. all in a flowy fabric embroidered in her celebration of existence.
